A vision board could be the key to successfully achieving your dreams in 2021!

What do successful celebrities do that you don’t? Might be something as simple as creating a vision board to frame their future success.

Popular TV personality Steve Harvey declared, “Everything I’ve ever gotten in life, I’ve written. My vision board is crazy.… What’s on my vision board now is astronomical. And guess what? I’m gonna get all of it.”

In his words, “Put it on your vision board. Work like a dog. And ask God for help.”

Harvey makes passionate speeches attributing his success to his vision boards. How they help you visualize and manifest successful habits and a successful life.

Writing it down is a principle of success. If you don’t write it down, count it out.

Entrepreneur John Assaraf also credits vision boards with his impressive success. He built five multi-million-dollar companies, wrote two New York Times bestsellers, and was featured in eight movies, including “Quest for Success” with Richard Branson.

Assaraf shared a story for the movie The Secret. He’d created a vision board with an image of his dream home. It got packed away during a series of moves. Five years later, he realized he’d moved into the same dream home he’d envisioned years earlier.

Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres, Beyonce, and Katy Perry all talk about using vision boards. So have many successful professional athletes, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople… because they work so well.

What Is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a collage of words and pictures that represents your goals and dreams. All those words and pictures are compiled on one board. It’s powerful because you see them all at a glance.

Psychology Today talks about the power of a vision board and using visualization to boost confidence, motivation, and even improve physical motor skills.[i] One study even suggests that it’s as effective as physical practice for athletes.[ii]

What do you do with your vision board once you create it?

You put it in a prominent place in your home or office so you see it daily, and visualize your new life often. It helps you stay focused on your goals.

Adds Clarity and Passion to Your Dreams

Most people approach their life and dreams nonchalantly and without much purpose. They only have a vague idea of what success means to them. But it never gets onto paper, let alone into real life.

Worse yet, many people have given up dreaming.

Creating a vision board is a proven way to dream again. And face life’s challenges head-on (whether money, career, or personal). A vision board helps you clarify your intentions.

A vision board can help you define your dreams and goals and breathe fresh life into achieving them.

If you’re not super clear about what success means to you, it’s nearly impossible to bring it to fruition.

A target needs definition — you need to know what you’re aiming for. Vision boards help clarify your dreams and give your life meaning. They breathe fresh life into elusive dreams.

What’s more, it can be relaxing to create your vision board. Lots of fun. Highly motivational. And a great predictor of success.

Everyone Can Use a Vision Board

You might be thinking, “How would a vision board help me?”

Because… your vision board represents your dreams, your goals, and your ideal life. If you don’t fulfill your life’s mission here on earth, who will do it for you? After all, you’re the only model of “you.”

The old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” is telling.

Several years ago, I was in a mastermind group with Howard Berg, the world’s fastest reader. He compared his super-charged reading tactics to the detail you see when scanning a landscape.

Your eyes take it all in much faster than you could describe it. Mountains, clouds, trees, sun or waning moon on the horizon, weather conditions, road signs, traffic lights, cars, shopping centers, restaurants, and more. All in one quick glance.

That, dear readers, is the value of your vision board. In one quick glimpse, you paint the picture of your perfect life in your mind’s eye. It’s very powerful.

You’ll naturally become more motivated to reach your goals when you see your future on your board every day.

Do you want to get rid of that nasty student debt this year? Or start investing so you don’t struggle through retirement like a loved one did? Live where you want, and in the house of your dreams? Spend more quality time with your family?

How to Create a Vision Board that Motivates You to Unbelievable Success

Step 1: Set the stage.

Get yourself in a relaxed yet focused mindset. Put your cell phone on airplane mode, stream some relaxing music, and get ready to dream.

Step 2: Get clear on what you want.

What does your ideal life look like? Define your typical week and day. What needs to happen in the next 12 to 24 months to get you closer to those goals?

Do you want your days filled with people or projects? Flexible or structured? Are you in a building phase of your career or are you happy maintaining? How much do you want to earn?

Dream. Dare to ask yourself, “If only I could _______, my life would be amazing.”

Any new stage in life — such as getting married, becoming a parent, buying your first home, or sending the kids off to college — is a perfect time to start dreaming anew for your future.

Step 3: Collect beautiful pictures and clip art… online or in magazines.

What pictures and photos inspire you and symbolize the experiences, feelings, lifestyle, and possessions you want in your life?

Look for pictures that make you instantly react with a “Yes, that’s what I want!”

Let your emotions go. Include inspirational quotes, words, or images… not just pictures of “stuff.” Only choose things that make you feel good. Motivated. Strong.

Choose and cut indiscriminately. Then narrow it down as you refine your dreams. Select the words and images that best symbolize your purpose, emotions, and ideal future.

For example…

Is one goal to spend more time with your family? Find pictures of walking a child home from school, doing homework together at the kitchen table, or cooking dinner together.

Want to travel more (or again)? Cut out photos of places you’ve always dreamed of going, and plan where your first trip will be once the world gets back to normal again.

Eager to kick your career up a notch? Include a photo of yourself in that new role. (Include images of paychecks and deposit slips to represent your growing bank account.)

Don’t worry if you can’t find the exact image of your dream home or romantic partner. Symbolism counts. Get close… you’ll know what it represents.

Step 4: Get a large piece of foam or poster board and glue from a craft store.

Arrange your favorite pictures on your board. But avoid a cluttered or chaotic vision board. You don’t want to attract chaos and clutter. There’s real beauty in simplicity.

Before gluing your images down, add affirmations that inspire and motivate you. How do you want to feel every day? Words like “abundant,” “joyful,” “strong,” “loved,” “healthy,” and “prosperity” might fit the bill. But choose words you love.

Add the date to your vision board.

Step 5: Be inspired daily.

Look at your vision board first thing in the morning. It’ll help you get motivated for the day. Seeing it last thing at night will prompt your subconscious mind to create new ideas and connections while sleeping.

Show gratitude for all your fulfilled dreams. But don’t remove the pictures of realized goals. They’re powerful affirmations of the success you worked hard for.

The greatest thing about a vision board is that the pictures help bring your dreams to life. In living color. If you can see an outcome more clearly, you’re much more likely to achieve it.

So start your vision board today. And then go seize the day… the year… the decade!
